There’s Been A Shift, Have You Noticed It?
Over the last year there’s been a real shift in the style of wedding photography. You’re probably seeing more blurred, in motion shots, moody imagery, stern looks and editorial shots that look like they should be on the cover of vogue! It takes a lot of talent and skill for a photographer to be able to adapt to a changing landscape like this, however, when it comes to your wedding photography it should be about more than just the key images that will look amazing on a social media grid, and here is why…
Factors to consider
If you love the blur, you love the editorial style imagery and you would love a moody magazine style cover shot, then search out those types of photographers, explore their work and make sure you see a wide range of shots like those you’re after to know they do it well (as I said, it’s a skill) HOWEVER… are these the only shots you want from your wedding day?
Do you also value candid moments of your guests interacting, of precious moments between your nan and a loved one, of your dads tears as he relives his hopes and dreams for you when you were a kid? If these are also important to you, ask to see examples of full galleries from each photographer you enquire with.
The full picture
Every photographer works differently. Some work towards getting only key images, what they deliver will most likely be stunning, but limited, and what they will have missed can be upsetting. Things like that little kiss your baby gave you and your partner after the ceremony, or the silly dance of excitement you did with your bridesmaids or that moment you went up and hugged your mum close amongst the chaos of the reception could all have been deemed moments that weren’t “a key shot” even though they were key for you.
If this resonates, you want someone that is skilled in capturing those hero images you love as well as the full story of your wedding. Candid, quirky, messy, fun moments included!
Weddings for Ludo & I are about the relationships of the couple getting married and everyone they love that’s there by their side. Weddings bring out so many emotions, people let their guard down in the best way, even the most stoic of dads can shed a tear, and they’re memories you never want to forget, which is why it’s worth seeing full galleries not just the highlights reels.
How have we adapted?
We appreciate the new style that has come through this year, Ludo has incorporated some of it into the way he shoots, however we haven’t had a huge change in our overall look and feel. You’ll see some beautiful in motion, and editorial style images, but it will be beautifully woven into the natural, candid, style of photography Ludo is so well known for. We will never stop focusing on the relationships and capturing the whole story, the emotions and true moments as they happen, that way you’ll be reliving a gallery of images that truely feels like you and your family, for a lifetime!
